The purpose of this website is to offer encouragement and suggestions on leading a healthy lifestyle. I will discuss foods that I believe should be a regular part of the diet, such as raw milk cheese; foods that should be used sparingly, such as ultra-pasteurized organic milk; and foods that should be avoided, such as margarine. Along with making healthy food choices, keeping physically fit and maintaining mental health are also important aspects of healthy living.

For some, physical fitness means running five miles every day or doing aerobics for an hour every morning. While this is fine for some people, it is not for everyone, including me. What is important for everyone is movement. Our bodies are not designed to sit or lie down for long periods of time (except for sleeping or recuperating from a medical issue). In fact, if you are sitting down right now stand up and walk around! It is easy to fall into the “sedentary lifestyle” trap. We can shop, bank, and get a degree while sitting in a chair at home. It can be challenging to get out of this sedentary trap and start moving. However, one of the single most important healthy lifestyle choices anyone and everyone can make is to move around more. So get up and walk, bike, run, swim, or do whatever it is that gets you up and moving.

A third important component to healthy living is mental health. While it’s great to eat nourishing foods and walk every day, if you are unhappy or stressed, you are not able to take full advantage of these healthy choices. Increasing positive forces in your life, such as being around people you enjoy, and decreasing negative forces in your life, such as limiting the time you spend with people you don’t enjoy, can help to improve mental health.

Remember: The best investment you can make is an investment in your health.
